“Shark Tank” is an ABC television show where business leaders listen to investment proposals and then decide if any are worthy of their time…and money. Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks (among other things…), is one of those who chair these hearings.
I have a business proposal I would now like to present to Mark and/or his fellow “Sharks.” We need to get the country to start talking about the Dallas Mavericks and not that other team in LA. (in a prior post, I committed to not mentioning that team name…)
Sure enough, as the Mavericks swept away that other team in LA yesterday with a 122-86 Mother’s Day Massacre…their opponent still manages to be the center of conversation.
Admittedly, we all knew after Dallas won four straight the talk would still be about their opponent to some extent. Two-time defending champions. Legendary coach retiring. And, with both teams being evenly matched going in no one expected the Mavs to take the first four so that accelerated the chatter about their opponent’s legacies being edited.
However, that other team in LA still commands all headlines, sound bites and pictures today because they went down swinging. Literally. ESPN story and video playlist here.
In true Hollywood tradition it was not enough for that other team in LA to just lose and shake hands with the better team. After their legendary coach had invited his family to join him in Big D (which sent what kind of signal to his squad they were able to come back in the series?)….Dallas’ opponent melted down like ice cream on the warm beach most of them mentally were occupying.
Mark and/or your fellow “Sharks,” please take on the bid of letting everyone know Dallas is still in the NBA Playoffs. Use your considerable media influence to take the media back from that other team in LA. I am already hearing and reading how television ratings will go down without the opponent your team just erased being in the tournament. Ironically, every time ABC/ESPN continues to talk about the team you just beat, they drive potential viewers away. Mark, you would think your network partners would be savvy enough to be talking up Dallas. Cutting their own throats each time they say how bad that other team in LA played and acted out. How about “introducing” the Mavs to the country instead?
Dallas is still in the NBA Playoffs. Honest. My business proposal is to get some seed money to help me get the word out. I will invest what I can from here on out but Mark…do you want in?
